Welcome

Adventure, imagination, play! Welcome to our site.  :)

Deep Space Aviators is a new game studio currently working on its first project. There's lots I'd like to talk about, but for this post I’ll keep it short and stick to the basics.

Who am I? For those I don't know yet, my name’s Shawn Potter and I’m the founder of the studio (and author of this blog!).

A little over six months ago I left my job at BioWare, where I worked on the Mass Effect games (and new IP) for about 8 years.  The majority of that time was spent as part of the gameplay programming team – first as a programmer, then as a lead. It was a fantastic experience, and I was fortunate to work with an amazingly talented group of people (hi guys!).

The only thing missing was that I had always wanted to work on my own projects as well. This year I saw a chance to do that, and so I made the jump to “indie” development!

The studio is now up and running. At this early stage, I'm the primary developer on our game. However, In addition to myself, I’ve been lucky to meet an extremely talented artist who has started doing some concept work (more on this soon!).

Beyond that, it would be nice to add a few more specific individuals later on, but I'll cover that in a future post.

Most importantly of all, I would like to mention that none of this would be possible without the encouragement, advice, and support from my friends and family (thank you!).

The game...is in development! I'm eagerly looking forward to talking about it. Starting with the next post, I will jump into the details and take a look at where it's at. The goal for development is to start small, get something up and running that's fun, and then build it out from there.

What's next? Until the next post you can always find me on Twitter where I tend to be fairly active (@shawnpotter1000).

I was thinking about how to end each post, and I like the idea of leaving a quote. Some will be easy to guess where they come from, others will be more challenging (extra points if you can figure it out).

Shawn

“To infinity and beyond!”

(if you don’t know where this comes from, I have homework for you)
